Work is well under way on Jubilee Gardens
01/2012 | newsletter | West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture
Work is well under way on Jubilee Gardens and important milestones have already been achieved as the Gardens continue to take shape, including the installation of new drainage, the formation of tree pits and the production of granite seating edge units and paving setts.
This month a start has been made with edge installation, the assembling of the irrigation system and the placement of the sub- and topsoil which will ready the Gardens for its next key milestone; the planting of 70 new trees, including English Oaks (Quercus robur), Common Beech (Fagus sylvatica) and Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), Small leaved Lime Trees (Tilia cordata), Pin Oak (Quercus pallustris) and Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum).
Completion of the Gardens is currently on track for May 2012, in time for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The Gardens will showcase a lush, new green landscape to Royal Parks standard. The abundance of colourful flowerbeds will feature red Geraniums (Pelargonium Anthony) for its opening in springand in the summer, the beds will be replanted with Lilium ‘Orange Pixie’.
Jubilee Gardens will be a quintessentially English park with undulating lawns, large lush trees and wide pathways generously meandering in between the trees providing for constantly changing views across the site and over the Thames towards Westminster and across the city.”
