West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture

On 25th November 2016, the updated Yongsan Park Masterplan, titled 'Yongsan Park, Healing and Recovery of the Heart of Seoul’, was presented to the public and media, at the auditorium of the National Museum. General public, local experts, scholars and stakeholders attended the meeting with much enthusiasm.

West 8's New Holland Island project won the ‘VII Russian National Award for Landscape Architecture’ Golden Certifcate in categories 'Best Realised Project of Public Space Design' and 'Best Realised Object of Environmental Design'. 

The Hills on Governors Island won a Gold Award in New York Design Awards 2016. West 8's design for the transformation of the once-abandoned island into a major public destination has now won fourteen awards in total.

In fall 2016 West 8 was selected as designer for the public realm and waterfront for Riverpoint, Washington DC. Strategically located at the confluence of the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers, the Riverpoint development will catalyze an entirely new neighborhood in Southwest Washington DC.

West 8 presents in October at ‘The Annual Investment Forum' in St. Petersburg. One of the discussion themes of the forum was "Development of creative industries: practical steps for economic development".

On the 8th of November, West 8 presented two design options for a new slow traffic bridge over the Wilhelminakanaal in Oirschot. Held in Oirschot’s municipality hall, the presentation was attended by over 300 people.

On November 24 2016, the final draft of the Masterplan of Yongsan Park designed by West 8 + IROJE + DONG IL will finally be presented to the Yongsan Park Committee, which consists of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, local experts and stakeholders. This milestone represents four years of progress since the team won the international design competition in 2012.

West 8's Project Manager, landscape architect Jelle Therry was invited to join the event "A vision for Prague - THE CITY AND THE RIVER - LEFT BANK" to share West 8's broad portfolio of waterfront projects. Together with the city's experts, they exchanged ideas on how to revitalize spaces around the Vltava river in Prague. 

On November 12,2016 Adriaan Geuze spoke at In Our Time: A Year of Architecture in a Day, a daylong event organized and hosted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and featuring world renowned architects, curators, theorists, photographers, and filmmakers.

On 3rd of November 2016, the vision for Kijkduin-Bad's public space was presented to the local residents and business sector. Located on The Hague's seashore, West 8's vision brings back the dunescape to the family beach resort.

Minister Blok has announced that the plan ‘Made by Holland’ has been selected as one of three final proposals for the redevelopment of the palace and gardens of Soestdijk. West 8 is part of the team that drew up the plan.

Madrid Rio has been awarded the I premios Arquitectura con Eñe in the Designing with Stone category. The project was accredited as best public space project for its use of Spanish stone.

West 8's New York Principal-in-charge, Claire Agre presents at the ASLA 2016 Annual Meeting and EXPO in New Orleans, on Saturday October 22nd. With an educational session entitled "Great Landscapes on Wet Sites: Understanding and Managing High Water Tables.”

With construction works beginning on the historic ‘t Zand Square in Bruges, a revised and approved proposal for the current fountain sees it beautifully integrated within the waterway of the adjacent Albert I Park.

West 8’s project ‘The New Hondsbossche Dunes in Petten’ wins in the Planning category of the 8th edition of the Arie Keppler Award. The awards ceremony, held in Velsen town hall in North Holland, was part of the festive closing of the jubilee event 'OVERMOOI'.

On Monday the 3rd of October West 8 presents a lecture “Second Nature” as part of the prestigious Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism Forum Lecture Series, held in The National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa.

Elected officials of the Bordeaux City Council have voted in support of the proposed revitalization of Place Gambetta in Bordeaux, which is to be developed in accordance with West 8 + Sabine Haristoy + Cetab's  winning competition proposal for the historic square.

This September the schematic design for More Moss Park in Toronto was presented to the public. MJMA, West 8 and Public Studio working closely with The City of Toronto, ‘The 519’ and the community have created a community-based proposal to enhance and expand existing programs, facilities and park space on the 3.4ha site.

The first phase of the restoration and regeneration of New Holland Island in St Petersburg opened to the public on August 27, 2016. West 8, who was responsible for the island's 2.2ha landscape master plan attended the opening weekend celebrations.

The Olana Partnership Announces Summer Exhibition “Follies, Function & Form: Imagining Olana’s Summer House” in Hudson NY. The exhibition showcases original concept sketches by 21 architects and landscape architects, including West 8's Adriaan Geuze, inspired by Frederic Church’s Olana.
