West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture

West 8 has been invited to join the Judging Panel for the WAN Waterfront 2015 Awards. West 8 will be represented by Senior Project Leader, Mr. Maarten Buijs. An expert in Waterfront design, Mr. Buijs In collaboration with four other panel members will select a winner from the 34 Waterfront Award entries that have been submitted from all corners of the globe.

On August 20, 2015, the Moffatt & Nichol - West 8 - LSU-CSS Team was announced as a winning team in the Changing Course Competition. A global design competition seeking innovative—yet implementable-- solutions to rebuild the Mississippi River Delta, protect communities and industries. 

Over half a million viewers tuned into Adriaan Geuze’s three hour interview for Zomergasten on the dutch television network VPRO, which took place on Sunday the 16th of August 2015. The fourth Summer Guest of the 2015 season, Geuze spoke passionately about the art of Dutch landmaking. 

On the 31st of July, 2015, West 8 was announced the winner of the urban design and landscape conceptual planning competition for Brunecker Strasse (Brunecker road) in Nuremberg, Germany. West 8’s design for the two stage competition will now continue to be developed into an urban design and landscape plan of the area.

On the 19th of June, after three years of construction, Toronto’s revitalized waterfront boulevard designed by West 8 together with DTAH was officially opened, in festive public opening ceremony, “transforming Toronto’s waterfront into a prime destination that rivals some of the great waterfronts in the world'' said Canada's Federal Minister of Finance, Mr. Joe Oliver.

The City of Bruges has announced West 8 + Snoeck & Partners together with Atelier Roland-Jéol, as the winners of the competition for the redevelopment of the 't Zand, also known as Het Zand Square in the UNESCO town of Bruges, Belgium. Mayor of Bruges and jury member Mr.Renaat Landuyt commented that the winning "plan was revolutionary in its simplicity''.

Cargiant and their development partners London & Regional Properties have unveiled early plans for the future of their 46-acre site inthe heart of Old Oak Common, London. West 8 together with PLP Architecture, Arup and several other consultants are responsible for the development of the initial plans to transform the site, which are now being launched for consultation.

To celebrate the successful transformation of Toronto’s main waterfront street, Queens Quay Boulevard. The city of Toronto is planning a ribbon cutting ceremony, unlike any other, on Friday the 19th of June at 6:00 p.m– and they need everyone's help to make it happen. 

The 8th of June, 2015 marked the festive public opening of the Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. For 247 years this exhibition has showcased the most exciting painting, sculpture, film, architecture and photography from new and established artists. As one of the invited exhibitors in the Architecture Gallery, Adriaan Geuze exhibits with a sculpture titled ’Darwin Accelerated’.  

From over 120 entries, Rotterdam Centraal has been selected by the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA) for the prestigious award: ‘Best Building of 2015’. Since it's opening in March 2014, Rotterdam Centraal has won 9 national and international awards.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) on 20th May, announced WEST 8 - DPA as one of the five teams shortlisted to participate in the second stage of the Rail Corridor Request for Proposal (RFP). Stage 2A of the RFP competition will commence on 22nd of May 2015.

On 7th of May, the Park Pergola designed by West 8 was announced as one of the 8 shortlisted projects for the 2015 Rietveldprijs (Rietveld Award). The Rietveldprijs is an biannual architectural award that celebrates the quality of the built environment within the city of Utrecht, the Netherlands.

The 10-acre Miami Innovation District designed by SHoP Architects and West 8, led by noted developer Michael Simkins, will help position Miami to become Florida’s Silicon Valley, bringing financial benefits, sustainable economic growth, and jobs to the city. 

Adriaan Geuze is one of several globally significant, innovative, and influential practitioners confirmed to speak at the Making and Managing Toronto’s 21st Century Landscape Conference, to be held on May 22, 2015 at the Isabel Bader Theatre, University of Toronto.

Aurelis Real Estates has announced that West 8 is one of three teams awarded 2nd place for the urban design and landscape conceptual planning competition Brunecker Strasse (ehem. Südbahnhof), Nuremberg. All three teams are invited to bring their proposals forward to the next stage.

The 34 bridges and 12 pumping-stations in the Noordwaard polder are on track for completion later this year. Designed by West 8 in collaboration with IPV Delft the bridges are an integral part of the depoldering Noordwaard project located in the south east of the Netherlands. 

West 8 has been chosen to lead the development of the master plan for the new 120 acre world-class botanic garden in Houston, Texas. In addition to serving as a guide for the development of the botanic garden, the master plan will be an important tool for generating interest and understanding among those who will support and share the project.

Waterfront Toronto, in partnership with the City of Toronto has announced KPMB Architects + West 8 + Greenberg Consultants as the winner of the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal and Harbour Square Park Innovative Design Competition. Jury chair Donald Schmitt said the winning scheme took home top honours as much for its practicality as its “iconic” design.

Conceived as a “town square with a twist, Colwell Shelor + West 8 + Weddle Gilmore's winning design concept for Mesa City Center has received an Honor Award from the Arizona Chapter of the ASLA in the Analysis & Planning category.
