West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture

West 8 is going to develop a comprehensive master plan to guide the famous public garden's growth over the next 40 years. The plan will address traffic and parking needs, pedestrian flow, facilities for expanded educational and fine arts offerings, maintenance and infrastructure, and ways to "expand the Longwood experience."

In conjunction with the MoMA exhibition Rising Currents: Projects for New York’s Waterfront. Adriaan Geuze held a lecture about the West 8 plan for Governors Island’s Park and Public Space, called: The Promise of an Island.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Governor David A. Paterson, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and State Senator Daniel L. Squadron today announced an agreement on the long-term development, funding and governance of Governors Island in which New York City will have primary responsibility to develop and operate the island.

West 8’s project Jubilee Gardens is going ahead and will screen live footage of the 2012 Olympics. The Mayor of London Boris Johnson has today announced £11.5m funding to six London boroughs for public space projects that will transform the look and feel of the Capital in time for the 2012 Games. 

The City of Madrid has won the "Golden Swing" award as initiator of the ten children's play areas located in the Salon de Pinos in Madrid. The playgrounds are designed by West 8 urban design & landscape architecture and MRIO Arquitectos.

West 8 in collaboration with Snoeck en Partners, Bas Dirk Jaspaert, ERM and Tritel, has won the competition organized by the City of Leuven, for the revitalization of the former industrial site Vaartkom in Leuven, Belgium.

Construction of the new passenger terminal for Rotterdam Central Station has begun. Resigning Minister of Transport Eurlings gave the official launch.

West 8's projects Happy Isles and Waterfront Toronto are currently on show at the NAi in the new exhibition Architecture of Consequence.

West 8’s project “Neues Wohnen in Hamburg-Jenfeld”, designed for the City of Hamburg Bezirk Wandsbek, Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben and BSU, has been awarded the Gold Award in this year’s International Urban Landscape Award (IULA). 

The Salon de Pinos, one of the 47 projects of West 8+MRIO's Madrid RIO project, now features a magic forest of Robinia trees with different sorts of playground equipment in it.

For the 2011 Xi'an International Horticulture Exhibition, West 8 designed a Master Landscape Architect Garden, that plays with the limits and the sensation of surprise.

West 8's project Living in New Jenfeld has been shortlisted for the International Urban Landscape Awards (IULA) 2009. This year IULA, organized by Eurohypo, focuses on the UK’s and Germany’s most ground breaking urban architecture concept and project.

On 2 December 2009 the first section of the Groene Loper in Maastricht, designed for the city of Maastricht, was opened. The 25 meter long section now functions as a model showing how the Groene Loper will look like once it's constructed for real.

Construction is moving along at the second Shell Bridge (Puente Cascara), West 8+ MRIO designed for the City of Madrid.
