West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture

The conference "Leading with Landscape IV: Transforming North Carolina's Research Triangle", curated by The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF), will be held on April 12-15, 2018. Adriaan Geuze will present on April 13 in Panel 1. Early bird registration rates are available until February 23.  

Within 6 months of time, the realization of Xinhua Waterfront Park, a cultural corridor section with the total area of ​​17 hectares urban open public space, has finally come to its completion on 31st December 2017.

A true city district with a romantic and warm character, seamlessly connected with the nearby green Kralingse Bos and Kralingse Plas. West 8’s recently revealed design vision for Nieuw Kralingen demonstrates a contemporary differentiated neighborhood with a wide variety of housing typologies.

On January 27, the Proveniersplein with its bridges north of the Rotterdam Central Station was festively opened. The ceremony led Councilman Robert Simons. The completion of the square represents the conclusion of the bigger endeavor of the Rotterdam Central Station; a project by Team CS. Team CS is a cooperation between Benthem Crouwel Architects, MVSA Meyer en Van Schooten Architects, and West 8.

West 8 has been appointed Strategic Master Planner and future Supervisor for the University of Amsterdams’ City Centre Campus.

Principal in Charge of West 8 New York, Claire Agre, is invited to present at Rutgers University Common Lectures Series Spring 2018. Titled 'Waste Not: Recent West 8 Works', this lecture will be presented on Janurary 31 highlighting some of West 8’s North American portfolio.

In 2016 Madrid Rio was awarded the Hispania Nostra Prize in the category: Prize for Heritage Conservation as a factor of economic and social development. The award ceremony where Her Majesty Queen Sofia will preside over, will take place on 25 Jan 2018 in the Monastery of San Juan in Burgos. 

West 8 is much honoured to be invited to represent the Netherlands to exhibit in the Foreign Designers Creative Exhibition part of the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition. On Dec 2 2017, design of 'Garden of Time' was unveiled during the official launch of the expo event commenced at Beijing Forestry University.

In collaboration with Strelka KB, part of West 8's involvement in the Moscow City's 'My Street' program, the revitalisation of Tverskaya Zastava Square and surrounding area is completed with great success. To date, the upgraded historical station area has made its glorious comeback.

On December 8, Bureau Hengelo announced that West 8 has won the design competition for the Hengelo market square. With a majority of 68% of the votes, the public opted for West 8’s design, disqualifying the two other competitors Mecanoo and IAA Architecten.

Designed and produced by West 8 team, visitors of this year's Design Miami/ Art Basel are being greeted by a grand green temporary installation at the venue entrance outfitted with 101 wooden logs: 'Irma Logs', recycled from the recent Hurricane Irma. 

'THE CITY OF HOUSING' is a series of lectures on urban development and urban housing construction, organised by Oliver Thill and Andre Kempe together with Christina Lotzemer-Jentges. Edzo Bindels presents West 8’s precedents in housing and urban (re-)developements of the last three decades.

On Thursday 16 November, three design teams presented their visions for the Olentangy River Corridor in Columbus, Ohio. West 8 collaborated with Columbus local landscape architecture firm REALM Collaborative, to present ideas for transforming the Olentangy River from an obstacle to a focal point for the city of Columbus.

Headed by Principal architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov for the second year in a row, the session “Creative Industry and Urban Science” at the VI St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum was commenced between 16-18 November this year. Adriaan Geuze joined the forum and presented on the second day session: Mass Culture and Recreation.

A two-day event “SELECTED”, is a design and visual arts’ festival located in the charming capital of Biscay, Bilbao. Representing West 8, Project Leader, architect, Juan Tur, will take part in de debates on Friday November 17, present a keynote presentation and go in depth with elite co-'selected' of the event.

The groundbreaking took place Novermber 8, Wednesday morning at 3001 Market Street, which will be the site of the future 1.3-acre Drexel Square, an elliptical park designed by SHoP and West 8, together with Drexel University and master developer Brandywine Realty Trust.  

Groene Loper A2 Maastricht is the winner of the Schreudersprijs 2017, the prize for innovative underground construction projects. A2 Maastricht wins the award with the design and opportunities that the Groene Loper (Green Carpet) brings. 

November 4, 2017 was the grand opening of the exhibition ‘Coolsingel’ in Museum Rotterdam, an exhibition composed around a timeline, offers an impressive cinematic experience and tells the legendary tales of Rotterdam itself.

12 ‘green pillars’ are now in place to invite everyone to walk and bike on the Groene Loper, the Green Carpet. They are also a place where birds can safely roost.
